Nebraska Lutheran Campus Ministry

A campus ministry at Northeast Community College is a reality! The St. John's group has signed a covenant with Nebraska Lutheran Campus Ministry (NeLCM) to establish the Norfolk location. Pastor Justin Wiese has been selected and has agreed to serve as Campus Pastor. Volunteer Coordinator Roger Sasse and Development Director Diane Kelly have been a great resource. The volunteers from St. John's comprising the Advisory Council are: John Skogstoe - Pres.; Lori Olson - VP; Chad Boyer - Sec./Treas.; Pastor Edgar Schambach - Staff Supervisor; and Jacquelyn Samway - Special Advisor. Ashley Erks has been a tremendous asset in creating all the signs and graphics. Unfortunately, she is moving away. We will miss her but she promises to stay in touch. If you have a Facebook account, you can help! Go to our Facebook page and click "like". Once we get to 25, everyone will be able to access the page whether they have Facebook or not. Watch for more news coming soon!

The helping hands have descended on St. John's! A MAJOR sprucing has begun! Painting, cleaning, scrubbing -- the works -- are in progress in preparation for new carpeting which begins in July. LOTS of helpers are making shorter work of all the jobs. Pew removal begins Wednesday, June 29 at 6:30 pm. Bring your 7/16th open end wrench and a large screwdriver and we'll put you to work!

Feed the Roots, Grow the Forest

It is a great pleasure to write and share thanks from everyone involved with the "Feed the Roots, Grow the Forest" campaign for the gift for Nebraska Lutheran Campus Ministry. Your generosity will help our Nebraska Synod grow new leaders and nurture current leaders for many years to come. We are thrilled with the excitement and enthusiasm that this campaign has been generating. Thanks to leaders such as you, we are making strong progress toward the campaign goals! On behalf of the people of all ages who will benefit from your leadership and for all that you are doing for the ministry we share together, thank you for your discipleship and stewardship. May you be blessed to keep on being the special blessings that you are. Jason Gerdes, Director Nebraska Synod Campaign

If you think gardening sounds like a pleasant pasttime, ask our Garden Club -- I'm sure they'll agree! The hard part is making things easier for years to come. After re-grooming this parking lot island, it was ready for new growth. Thank you all for the hard work -- it looks beautiful! Next project -- plantings around our new sign.

Joplin Recovery

When you think that you're just one person and 'what can one person do', think of Emily!
After a morning at Mission DayCamp which included decorating pillowcases with pictures and prayers to send to Joplin, Missouri, Emily went home with helping others on her mind. She returned the next day with a collection "house" hoping that her congregation would donate to helping Joplin recover from tornado damage. After presenting her hopes to the congregation, the collection was taken. Emily was able to rally one person's hope into over $500 for Joplin! Look what one person can do!

Walking Bible Study

Be sure to try and "keep up" with St. John's new Walking Bible Study. The group steps out on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM, beginning in the church parking lot. Open your minds and hearts to the wondrous gift of life! Join us Wednesday, June 15, as we get started!

Daycamp, Day #4!

It's the last day at St. John's Mission Adventure DayCamp! Today our theme was "God Wants Me to Follow Him." God knows our thoughts & feelings so we can follow God with confidence wherever we live. Following Fish was our craft today, but we got even more excited about our last DMP'S (Daily Mission Projects)--we did THREE. First, we sorted, cleaned and packed soaps & shampoo for "Clean the World." Then we sorted, cleaned and packed storybooks for the "Children's Book Project." Finally, we sorted, cleaned and packed stuffed animals for "Adopt-A-Platoon." That's a LOT of sorting, cleaning and packing! Today's projects will touch California, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the countries of South America. We also made a visit to our Gethsemane Prayer Garden and talked about Praying in Color. Oh, yeah, and we made our own "Scrubby Soaps," too--check out the pictures--our hands have never been so clean! Special thanks to our DayCamp leaders Susan, Midge, Linda & Tracy for a fun week of being God's hands in a hurting world. Mission Adventure DAYCAAAAAAAAAAAMP!

DayCamp Day #3!

"Who is this man? Who is this man? Can any person understand? The mighty things that Christ can do? Can YOU? Can YOU?" Today, DayCampers talked how God works: we don't always understand God, but we know through Christ that God does all things with great LOVE! We made giant "Ojos de Dios" (God's Eye) weavings, sewed cross bookmarks, and learned how to pray "popcorn style." We had not one, but TWO DMP's (Daily Mission Projects) today: we packed boxes of donations for Nursing Homes in Need. We also made 50 kennel blankets for the Humane Society and the Almost Home Animal Shelter. GOOD JOB, Mission Adventure DayCampers--we're changing God's world in new ways every day!

Disaster Response: Missouri River

Due to controlled flooding along the Missouri River, urgent help is needed to assist those who are being evacuated from their homes. Help is needed in moving and storing personal property. Temporary housing is needed for people as well. If you can assist in any way, please be in contact with the following churches: First Lutheran Church, South Sioux City 402.494.5461 ---- Salem Lutheran Church, Dakota City 402.987.3582 ---- First Lutheran Church, Nebraska City 402.873.5424 ---- First Lutheran Church, Blair 402.426.4073

DayCamp Day Two!

We're back again with more Mission Adventure DayCamp action! Today our theme was "God is Bigger than the Problems We Face." We painted spinning tops, made "Jesus is My Rock" necklaces, and learned another new way to pray every day! One of our DayCampers made a great Tornado Recovery donation box at home last night, so we're stuffing the box with dollar bills to help her special project! For our big DMP (Daily Mission Project), we cut and sewed a giant Mission Quilt. Lutheran World Relief will send our quilt to Africa so a family there can use it. Check out our photos and come back tomorrow--we're changing God's world every day at St. John's Mission Adventure DayCamp!

Day One of Mission Adventure DayCamp!

WOOHOO! We're off and running on our Mission Adventure Daycamp! Today we celebrated that God creates and loves us! We talked about how we are all connected, and made our own giant puzzle pieces and COOL time capsules. Our DMP (Daily Mission Project)connects us to Joplin, Missouri, where we are sending our hand-decorated pillowcases and words of encouragement to God's people there!
