Following the custom we began last year, we are designating July as Sabbatical Month. As much as possible we will shift our congregational energy away from being busy with programs and meetings to experienceing God's gift of rest and renewal through congregational worship, personal prayer and reflection, and the celebration of our life together as the Body of Christ.

New Bishop Elected

The Rev. Brian Maas was selected Saturday by the 2012 Nebraska Synod Assembly as its new Bishop.
Maas was selected on the fourth ballot, receiving 432 of the 702 votes cast. Maas was elected to a six-year term, succeeding Bishop David deFreese who was first elected in 2000.
Maas currently serves as Lead Pastor at First Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Prior to that, Maas served in calls in Tekamah, Nebraska and Kansas City, Missouri.
Following his election, Maas humbly told the assembly he was overcome by three overwhelming feelings - the first, gratitude for the support of the assembly; the second, an abiding concern for their judgment; and third, a profound confidence "God will take care of us anyway."
"Everything I have, I will give to the best of my ability. The rest God will provide," Maas said.
Maas will officially begin his term as Bishop on Sept. 1 and will be formally installed on Sept. 22 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Click here to see video of the announcement.
