Funeral Services for Veona Rasmussen

Funeral services for Veona Rasmussen, age 90, will be at St. John's on Saturday, January 26, at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Justin Wiese & Betty Schambach officiating. A luncheon will follow immediately after worship in the St. John's fellowship hall, and committal at Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview will follow the luncheon. See Veona's obituary below.


NORFOLK — Services for Veona Mary Rasmussen, 90, of Norfolk will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk with the Rev. Justin Wiese & Betty Schambach officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Home for Funerals in Norfolk.
She died at the Golden Living Center on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013.

Veona was the youngest child of Herman and Ella (Jurgensen) Johansen. She was born on Sept. 3, 1922, at home southwest of Plainview. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church southwest of Plainview. Veona attended grade school at District 62 and graduated from Plainview High School in 1940.
On Oct. 12, 1940, Veona married Ronald R. Rasmussen. They had three children, Kenneth, Sharon and Jeanine.

She earned her real estate salesman license and also her broker’s license and worked with her husband in real estate for a number of years.

She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk for 45 years. Her passion was her family. She enjoyed music, dancing and playing cards.

Veona and her husband were avid motorcycle riders, having attended the Sturgis Rally for 15 years. They rode throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. She liked spending time at the Norfolk Senior Center. In their early years of retirement, Veona and Ron would winter in Arizona.

Veona is survived by her children and their spouses, Kenneth and Paula Sue Rasmussen of Norfolk, son-in-law Dale Reichle of Le Mars, Iowa, and Jeanine and Larry Neitzke of Granby, Colo.; three grandsons, Kevin Rasmussen, John Reichle and Robert (Katrina) Neitzke; three granddaughters, Loretta Lynn and Jim Keyes, Holly Allison and Becky (Newly) Holmes; one stepgrandson, James Gubbels; great-grandsons and great- granddaughters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald, in 1977; her daughter, Sharon; her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Rasmussen; her parents, four brothers and three sisters.
