New Jersey Bound: Youth Mission Trip 2014

This year's Nebraska Synod Youth Mission Trip will find high school youth and their adult leaders traveling east from the Nebraska Synod to join brothers and sisters in the New Jersey Synod to assist with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. On-site partners in New Jersey will be Lutheran Disaster Response personnel who are on the ground now, building relationships with people who have been impacted most by this natural disaster and setting up the infrastructure for a group such as ours to join them in service.

Travel will be by Windstar motor coaches, and we will stay overnight in Ohio on the trip east and back. The dates of the Mission Trip will be July 19-25, 2014. We anticipate being housed on the coast of Ocean or Monmouth County, two of the counties hardest hit by the storm. Housing and work will be in these areas, approximately an hour south of New York City.

All youth entering high school in the fall of 2014 (this year's 8th graders) through those who will graduate from high school in the spring of 2014 (this year's high school seniors) are invited to participate in the trip. We will not be able to make exceptions for anyone younger than these ages. Each congregation is asked to bring one adult leader for every 6 youth. Adult leaders must be at least 21 years of age, and congregations are asked to be attentive to their ratio of male and female chaperones to male and female participants.

Early bird registrations must be postmarked by April 1, for a cost of $400. After that date the registration fee will be $425. The FINAL cut-off for registrations is May 15. Registrations must be postmarked by this date. A deposit of $100 per person is needed to hold your place. The remaining balance of the registration fee is due by June 13. Requests for refunds can only be accepted through the final due date of May 15. You are welcome to substitute names for the trip through June 13.

The registration fee covers transportation, housing, evening activities and most meals while in New Jersey. Trip participants will be responsible for the cost of several meals on the road and any additional items they would like to purchase.

Registration forms for youth and adults and a form on which to list all of your congregation's participants will be available online in the near future.
